Well today I got up and went to a radio interview with Billy Parker on Big Country 99.5 in Tulsa. My dad, Rodney Lay, and I got to the station right about 9:00. We walked in and told the receptionist who we were. The door to the rest of the station was locked, so we had to wait on someone to come let us in and take us to the recording room. After waiting patiently for a little while on Billy or an assistant to come get us, the door finally opens, and standing there with a big grin on his face stood country music legend Roy Clark! Rodney said, “They’ve got you answering doors at the radio station now?”
Once we got acquainted with Roy, Billy, and a few other guys, we went in to start taping the show. We all sat in one room with a few microphones and the taping got underway. They all shared stories from the road and from their lives in the music business. I learned a lot from them all. For example: The distorted sound that many guitarists strive for was stumbled upon by accident! Someone, many years ago, had a tube going bad in their guitar amp, causing it to distort. The rest is history. The show will air on Saturday February 13th from 8 to 10 o’clock in the morning, and on Sunday February 14th from 8 to 10 o’clock in the evening. If you can pick up the station on your radio, please listen!
Thanks for reading!
Until the cows come home,
Tyler
